OUR STORY
THE ĀHUA STORY
Te Wiki Āhua o Aotearoa was founded by three young creatives in 2024. With a passion for rejuvenating Tāmaki Makaurau’s arts & culture scene, and increasing accessibility within it, the founders ran Āhua’s first season – Fall/Winter 2024. From the very beginning, our kaupapa has been firmly rooted in inclusivity and showcasing the talents and abilities of Aotearoa’s emerging creatives.
That first run of three shows was met with an outpouring of love and support, proving that
the need for a space that values community and creativity over commodity was felt far and
wide. This initial reception has allowed the team, as well as our showcases and kaupapa, to grow bigger and bolder than we could have ever imagined.
ĀHUA is now headed by six Company Directors, all manning their own departments within the company. Our wider network team consists of over 400 talented creatives across multiple disciplines–from media positions, to set designers, performance artists, DJs, hair and makeup artists, and more.
We are a community of young, scrappy, and hungry creatives that show up to the arena, seemingly ill-equipped, yet continuously proving that we deserve to have a seat at the table.
